Earl Bales Park is located directly across from Clanton Park community bordering on the east side of Bathurst Street (main entrance at Raoul Wallenberg Road, opposite Bainbridge Avenue) and the south side of Sheppard Avenue. It is located at the site of the old York Downs Golf Course in the West Don River valley where tees and greens can still be recognized as you wander through the park landscape. The property was originally owned and farmed by John Bales, great-grandfather of Robert Earl Bales a former Reeve (Mayor) of the Township of North York. The historic Bales homestead, built in 1824, remains intact at the north-west corner of the park.
Special features includes the 1,500-seat Barry Zukerman Amphitheatre and, during the winter season, cross-country skiing on groomed trails. Earl Bales Woods contains Sugar Maple, Black Maple and American Beech and mature Black Walnut trees. This park is also home to the North York Ski Centre (open seasonally) - one of the two Ski & Snowboard Centres run by the City of Toronto. Recent upgrades to the ski chalet and an addition of a quad chair lift have made for a more enjoyable skiing and snowboarding experience on the hills.
Other park facilities include a playground, a dogs off-leash park, picnic sites, fire pits, and snack bar.
